The city I chose for the 2016 Olympics is Chicago. I knew Chicago was one of the bidding candidates and why not choose a city where some of my family lives in, the Dark Knight was filmed, and home to our new President?
Type Study
I wanted to choose a very clean typeface that is clear on both screen and print. I also wanted to choose a typeface that emphasizes all the curves and circles in the letters in Chicago.Thumbnails

The idea of using the sears tower for a symbol to use it is a good look to go for. Or use the idea of what chicago is know for, : the windy city" or you could use both elements in a way that lets you know it is wind and sears tower. But they could be good as seperate logos to explore. The type is clean but up beat feel. the last font set is a possible idea to go for it reminds me or chicago.
ReplyDeleteI like the seventh logo because it represents the Sears Towers, but has an organic shape... very abstract.
ReplyDeleteFor the font, I think that Gotham Nights (Lights?) does work best with your logo.
I like the first one but the wind may be starting to get a bit too complicated. Try simplifying?
ReplyDeleteI also like the one right below that. Its simple and abstract. Maybe the pieces are receding in thinness as they move right? (left the fattest, middle is smaller, right is smallest, if that makes sense.) Just an idea. Don't forget to throw in the rings.
Also, what year are you planning to do?
overall good concepts. :]

My favorite logo is the tower made from 3 shapes because it's a nice abstraction of the building, I think the other logos based on the tower are too obvious.
ReplyDeleteI like the wind idea but I think it's too detailed in the first logo. I think it works a lot better in the second logo
The very last logo, the tech circle like C, is interesting to look at but I don't know it has an olympics feel to it. I think you could pull it off using the colors though.
As far as your type treatments futura seems like a safe bet because of its history and Chicago is a pretty historical city. I do like the Surrounding typeface because I've never seen it, so if you want something more unique you could use that. I think it would work well if you used it with the abstract 3 shape tower

My favorite comp is the first one in the second row. The concepts of the Sears Tower and windy city are working well together this logo. It is also simplified enough for multiple applications in digital media and print. The the typeface Sanserifing should complement the notion of a skyscraper with its condensed, vertical orientation when set in all caps.
ReplyDeleteThey all look good to me but the second one on the third row looks best. It's simple and abstract but conveys an interesting message.
ReplyDeletei love the concept of your overall logos. I feel the one that stands out the most is the 7th logo. I like the abstract shape you created for the Sears Towers. The typestyle that you used, i feel, works very well together. If anything, i would make sure to use capital letters.

I like the third one to the left with the first typeface. They both match, do not use a condensed type.
